God Damn Barbera Streisand!

My Parisian dress is a total failure. As I suspected.

Luckily it should go to a new home with my friend Rosie who doesnt mind mini dresses.

Alas I am gutted. The sleeves are too tight, the bust is too small and it has turned into a mini dress! It was a Burda pattern but in my ignorence at the time i cut my normal dress size I love the pattern though. but next time I am making it a size up. and way longer

I am annoyed with my 19 year old self for not having decent sizing knowledge and bothering to make a dress in nice fabric.

I have no mannequin at present but it looks better on a figure then crumpled on a hanger

Even after slicing into the facing it still doesn't wanna stay down

It really does suck as I loved this fabric and now can't find it again. I have enough left for a skirt or maybe a jacket but still!

Ah well. Mistakes happen to the best of us!

University Has Decended

Apologies for the lack of posts, I have just started back at Uni and am inundated with work but I will update with all things sewingy and 1920's-ey too soon, I have to study Evelyn Waugh's Vile Bodies, a study on the 1920's Parisian Luxury Trade and Virginia Woolf's The Years.

I'm very Exited but really snowed under. Normal service will resume soon...

I have a few vintage magazines that I recently aquired including a couple of Le Petit Echo de la Modes from 1941 to 1943. I thought you might enjoy them as I find magazines invaluble research sources, They are all autumn Issues and I would have thought it came out weekly. What I can see from my bed

Freshers flu has got me again. Only this time I'm not a fresher and it probably isn't the flu. But I decided to stay in bed anyway, I'm back in Brighton today complete with a fab new iPhone 4 which was a totally unexpected present from my Dad! So I will spend until lunchtime surfing and playing ridiculous games and loading up my "Sewing Kit" app I found, It's like a little sewing planner, Fab! As well as sniffling and drinking tea.

I thought I'd try out the Camera instead of my SLR today. Partly because I can't be bothered to go to the foot of the bed to get it.

So here is what I can see from my bed.

I've been meaning to post up about this for ages! This was the best thing I've ever come across in a Charity Shop.

There it was tucked away in the corner. Litrally one of my favorite films ever and an original movie poster for £9!

Joan dress has been worn countless times recently and still needs a few tweaks so I think I might leave her at home tonight.

What Era are You?

I thought this was an interesting question as most of us stick to a particular era we idolise, I was always a dress up little girl, but my style has evolved from princessy 50's frocks.

so. What era do you emulate and most admire?

1920's?

1930's?

1940's?

1950's?

1960's?

1970's?

My current favorite era is a bit of a cop out really. I love late 1950's to early 1960's at present,

I love Jackie O, Sheath dresses, Little twinsets, Skirt suits, and figure hugging hourglass clothes.

But I have been into 30's, 40's and frilly 50's styles throughout my clothing life, occasionally I go back to these era's for a revisit, but If i'm sewing I tend to stick to this era.

So I'd love to know.
